Art for Good // Tim Goodman
Artist and pal Timothy Goodman, who gave Ace Hotel NYC room 910 its soul, is part of Plywood for Good, an auction tonight in San Francisco, hosted by Collective Good — thirty skateboard decks were distributed to thirty Bay Area artists to with as they pleased. 100% of proceeds will be donated to further support relief efforts in Japan — Tim has represented the colors of Japan’s flag in his piece. Come out if you’re in the neighborhood — see full details on Tim’s blog.

Shipley & Halmos // On My Radar
Yesterday, I had the lovely opportunity to reconnect with an old friend, Sam Shipley, who along with Jeff Halmos, began Shipley & Halmos, a fashion label – among other ~*things*~ – based here in Soho!
The below video will take you through a “Day in the Life of Shipley & Halmos,” however, I’m pretty sure no day is truly typical for these guys.
It was great to see you, Sam! Now it’s time for Roscoe and Pilot to meet Bacon!
Here are a few of my favorite items of theirs:

Hyper Island On a Wall // Back To School
Hyper Island On a Wall from Hyper Island on Vimeo.
Hyper Island is a school based in Sweden renowned for producing the most coveted digital talent in the ad industry. Students are taught that there are no boundaries when it comes to digital marketing. There are “no teachers or tests. No homework gets set, and no schoolbooks are needed. Instead, people who come to Hyper Island learn by doing. They learn about themselves, about how to work with others in teams, and about how to make amazing things happen.” The above video is brilliantly mastered, with awesome music to match. I think Robin will love NYC. This makes me want to go back to school. -
A Blog For Dudes / Wish I Was A Boy
This morning, graphic designer, Mikey Burton tweeted: “Handsome lookin’ blog about dude stuff http://thedapperdude.com and follow @DapperTweets.”
So I am!
The Dapper Dude shares wisdom on everything from Fashion, Imbibing, Dining and Design - but this time - for the fashionable dude. It’s one of the only blogs I have come across for guys that evokes that childhood wish I once had:
“I wish I was a boy!”

From his ABOUT section:“The Dapper Dude is a beer drinking, burger eating, sports watching frat guy. He likes his coffee black, his blue jeans blue and his Scotch neat. He has spent most of his professional life working in the men’s clothing and design industry for companies like GQ, Esquire, Ralph Lauren, Jack Spade and New York Spaces. He’s not a writer, he’s not a designer and he’s not an artist. He’s just a dude and this is his blog.”
I’d like to meet this man.

The Internet Wishlist
If you haven’t seen this already, it’s worth a peek. Imagine a suggestion box for what we *still* don’t have at our finger tips. The Internet Wishlist is set up sort of like a blog feed, with suggestions from people around the world of what the apps of tomorrow should be. Could this lead to true solutions with innovative design and technology - solutions simply kick-started from the demands of you and me? Let’s get working, developers!
To contribute, post an idea on Twitter and include #theiwl in your tweet. Wishlist creator, Amrit Richmond then collects the good ones and adds them to the Wishlist website.

Design + Cocktails = [Mixtures]
Who doesn’t love a little design in their drink?
Mixtures is a gallery of cocktails app designed and developed by The Loud Cloud, a creative agency representing a dynamic group of illustrators and designers. Through the app’s interactivity, Mixtures brings together 15 illustrators who each re-envisioned classic and contemporary cocktails, with their own crafted illustrations exclusively for the project. Each piece of art is accompanied by the actual recipe of the cocktail they’ve “concocted” with instructions for mixing the drink. Featured artists include: Maxwell Holyoke Hirsh, Carl De Torres, Caitlin Kuhwald, and Peter Oumanski.
The folks at Loud Cloud call it “a toast to the rich potential of interactive publication design.”

[above iPhone Screenshot]My favorites from the menu include the Mad Scientist by Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch and the Sidecar by Peter Oumanski. What’s your fancy?
Download Mixtures from iTunes here. Cheers!

[Mobile App Revolution] // Foursquare for Designers?
I’m registered for the Arch Digest Home Design Show thanks to a wonderful complimentary invite from The New Traditionalists’ CEO, Mr. Philip Erdoes.
As I start following happenings with the show and participants, I see a lot happening with it’s looping in of different technology, but still, you’ll want to attend in person no doubt. And this innovative thinking seems like a nice way for the show to celebrate it’s 10th year and celebrate ways designers can tap into technology to enhance their trade show experience.
My favorite development so far has been Designer Pages’ new app, SHOWROOMS for architects and interior designers that allows you to partake in community-driven showroom discovery - a true design piece finder at its best! They’ve included a Scavenger Hunt feature just for the AD Home Show, too. A great interactive way to engage the designers attending. Is this quite possibly the start of a sort of design-driven Foursquare?

This sort of adoption of technology only makes the true tangible nature showrooms and shops that are a part of the design industry more relevant and necessary.
